Dry and wet rising mains are
intended for use by the Fire Brigade or properly trained personnel,
to enable the rapid deployment of water to help fight fire in
a building. Dry risers are 'uncharged' rising mains with outlet
valves on each floor (typically located in convenient positions,
like stair-case enclosures, for example) and an inlet valve external
to and/or beneath the ground floor, so that the Fire Brigade
can readily connect into the water supply. A wet riser is permanently
charged with water.
Dry and wet risers, as well
as underground hydrants and hose reels, require regular inspection
and occasional maintenance to ensure that they will work in an
emergency. Since 1989, it has been the responsibility of a building's
owner / occupier to keep its hydrant systems in working order.
We provide the full range of all the genuine and fully compliant
and conformant brigade equipment you will need to service dry
rising mains.
This range includes:
- inlet breechings
- inlet and outlet cabinets
- outlet valves
- standpipes, bars and keys.

Dry riser inlet breechings
to BS5041 Part 3 are normally fitted in glass fronted cabinets
on the outside walls of buildings and have either 2 or 4 inlet
connections. For special requirements, a single inlet breeching
is
available.
They are used to feed water
into the rising main through 21/2" fire hoses. A 100mm (4")
rising main uses a two-way inlet breeching and a 150mm (6")
main uses a four-way inlet breeching.
Drain Valves to BS 5154 Normally
fitted to inlet breechings but can be supplied separately.
Two-way Inlet Breechings 4"
BSTD, 4" BSP parallel female or 100mm NP16 - can be mounted
either horizontally or vertically.
Four-way Inlet Breechings 6"
BSTD or flanged FLG-NP16.

Outlet Landing valves used
on dry rising mains should normally be of the gate valve type,
but globe pattern valves are occasionally used. They act as outlets
from the rising main and are fitted in easily accessible positions
on
each floor of a building above the first floor and sometimes
in deep basement areas.
Dry Riser Gate Valves with
2.5" instantaneous female outlet to BS336, blank cap and
chain, strap and padlock.Dry riser gate valves comply with the
requirements of BS5041: Part 2. Valves can be mounted in boxes
complying with BS5041: Part 4.
- Inlet flanged 2.5" BSP
or 3" BS Table D or 65mm BS4504 Table 16/21
- Inlet screwed 2.5" BSP
- Aluminium alloy (unvalved) 2.5" dividing breech
- Blank plugs in plastic, alloy, gunmetal and ruber

Type 1 and type 2 layflat hose
General purpose synthetic delivery hose. Suitable for industrial
and rural fire brigades as well as static building protection.
General industrial, commercial and civil engineering applications
including water
authorities where a high burst performance hose is not necessary.
Lightweight and flexible
Heat and cold resistant
Anti rot and anti-twist
Type 2 version has a dirt repellant, external elastomeric coating
A separate range of high performance
layflat hose is also available (Typically in red), ask for details.

Branchpipes
provide an adjustable nozzle to allow the curtain of water to
be altered from a narrow spray to a wide spray. Nozzles provide
a fixed jet of water. The basic branchpipe according to BS336
has an 2.5" inlet male instantaneous and outlet threaded
11/3" BSP male for either a plain jet or a branchpipe adjustable
nozzle.
The branchpipe is controlled from SHUT-OFF through JET and SPRAY
to wide angle CURTAIN by rotating the annular sleeve.
